HAMILTON DAY

Hamilton Day is almost upon us, and I know I’m excited! What I also know is that not a lot of people know exactly what’s-to-know about Hamilton Day! So, for this year’s Hamilton-Day special, I’m gonna tell you all there is to know about this awesome city celebration, in the simplest way possible: with the classic five W's of journalism! (We are a print publication, after all!)
Who is Hamilton Day for?
Hamilton day is for everyone! If you want to get a little more specific, though, the key targets of Hamilton Day are twofold: small businesses and their patrons. Hamilton Day is a celebration of small business in Hamilton, and a day where the city and its citizens can help them thrive. It is also a day for said small businesses to give back to their communities in the form of fun, fanfare, and sometimes freebies!
What is Hamilton Day?
Hamilton Day is a holiday celebrating the city of Hamilton and its people. On Hamilton day weekend, the city lights up with events and fun stuff as far as the eye can see. Specific events and activities will vary from location-to-location, with plenty of family friendly things to do and a plethora of more sophisticated activities for the more mature. It’s a time for walking around your favourite streets and seeing what the businesses have to offer!
When is Hamilton Day?
Admittedly the name is a bit of a misnomer, as it’s really more Hamilton Weekend. Expect to see festivities for the entire weekend on November 1st and also on November 2nd.
Where is Hamilton Day happening?
City wide! Be sure to check their website or ask around your favourite businesses to see who is participating. This year make sure to check out the new Hamilton Day Hub, located in the Hamilton Farmers Market!
Why is Hamilton Day a thing?
Hamilton Day exists to not just celebrate local business, but also to help it thrive! It was originally thought up in 1931 as an attempt to stimulate the economy through the great depression. It went widely uncelebrated for decades before making its revival in 2021, this time to aid businesses during the pandemic. Since then, though, it has gotten bigger and bigger every year. Hamilton Day no longer serves as a salve to help businesses survive, it is now a bonafide holiday for everyone to enjoy!
I hope that I was able to clear up any confusion surrounding our city’s new annual tradition, and, moreso, I hope I was able to convince you to take a gander when Hamilton Day comes around! If you want to find a full list of participating businesses, are a business wanting to participate, or I was not able to properly enlighten you with this riveting article, then check out hamiltonday.ca for more information.
